Robin D.G. Kelley of the University of Southern California and composer/pianist Randy Weston met at one of Harlem's leading cultural centers to discuss Kelley's most recent book, Thelonious Monk: The Life and Times of an American Original (Simon and Schuster, 2009). This is the first book on the pianist and composer based on exclusive access to the Monk family papers and private recordings. Kelley and Weston explored Monk's legacy in both words and music. The event took place at the Dwyer Cultural Center on St. Nicholas Ave in Harlem on Tuesday, October 13.
